Cómo salir airoso de situaciones embarazosas en las entrevistas de trabajo

Imagínate: tienes una entrevista de trabajo y cuando estás esperando a tu entrevistador te percatas de que llevas dos calcetines diferentes. O… ¡los zapatos! O peor aún: en mitad de la conversación, estornudas y los restos del estornudo van a parar a los papeles o la mesa del encargado de realizar las entrevistas. ¡Desastre!

Desde Pueblo Inglés le contamos cómo puedes salir airoso de estas situaciones embarazosas que pueden darse, y se dan, en las entrevistas de trabajo. Como Colby Price explica, un error inocente no tiene por qué significar el fin del proceso de selección: “Some mistakes are deal breakers – answering your phone during the interview, inappropriate language – but an innocent mistake doesn’t have to mean the end”.

¿Qué hacer? Aprovecha esa situación embarazosa para demostrar tus aptitudes.

“We are human and we make mistakes, though an interview in one of the worst places to make a mistake. Remember the old 90:90 rule – Ninety percent of the people make up their minds about you in the first 90 seconds of the interview. The best thing you can do it to use your embarrassing moment to demonstrate how you handle a difficult situation”.

En efecto, demostrar tus artes ante situaciones difíciles le hará sumar puntos en vez de restar.

“First of all, it is better to apologize than to try to play it off (disimular, hacerse el sueco).  Taking responsibility for your actions demonstrates more to a potential employer.  If you don’t admit your mistakes, the interviewer might imagine you erasing important documents or forgetting important meetings and then trying to cover up your mistake”, explica Colby.

“If you have a good reason for the mistake, explain.  ‘I am late because traffic was heavy’ is not a good excuse.  ‘I am wearing two different shoes because my daughter had an accident while I was getting dressed’ might just explain how something like that happens”, añade.

Otro consejo: “Change the subject. An important skill in an interview is keeping the questions and answers within your comfort zone. If you give a stupid answer or call the interviewee the wrong name, don’t linger. Try asking the potential employer a related question about his or her company”.

Y muy importante, conserva la calma. “Grace under pressure is a big asset. Crises will arise at work. How will you handle the pressure?  If you don’t let a stupid mistake faze you too much, it will make a good impression.

El error es humano. En tu mano está saber sacarle provecho a ese error….
